This book represents the first part of the two-volume series and is a perfect complement to your General Chemistry course. The During Class Inventions portion of the book consists of activities that an instructor can use in cooperative groups or as individual in-class exercises. The instructor can use these activities to help students invent important concepts or to assess students' understandings of these concepts.

The second half of the book consists of three kinds of computer based activities that can be used in a computer laboratory setting or as independent exercises. MoLEs (molecular level experiments) are inquiry laboratory activities that explore and link chemical concepts at the molecular, macroscopic, and symbolic levels. Molecular Modeling uses a molecular viewing program to explore the characteristics of molecules and molecular concepts. Laboratory Simulations generate experimental data that can be used to invent concepts.
