Chemistry - A Quantitative Science
Dennis W. Wertz, North Carolina State University
ISBN: 978-0-7380-2711-1 Net Price: $33.75
Chemistry - A Quantitative Science (CAQS) follows its companion text, Chemistry - A Molecular Science (CAMS). While CAMS presents a foundation of basic concepts, CAQS presents the quantitative strategies that give students a deeper understanding, and mathematical tools that allow them to solve chemical problems. For example, the over-arching concepts of thermodynamics, equilibrium, and kinetics covered in Chapter 9 of CAMS are then re-introduced from an analytical perspective in CAQS in Chapters 3-5 and 10 as heats of formation, PV work, calorimetry, equilibrium problems, integrate rate laws, etc.
The difference in treatment of topics in the two textbooks can be seen by viewing the treatment of acids and bases in both CAMS (Chapter 12) and CAQS (Chapter 6). The quantitative treatment is extended in Chapter 7 of CAQS where buffers and mixing problems (titrations) are treated.
